CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?

I’ve been designing Pony Rider for the last 10 years, it’s a homewares brand with an outdoor lifestyle edge. Prior to that I was in the rag trade and a branding graphic designer. Mix bag of lollies that all fall under the one umbrella of design.

WHAT DOES YOUR CREATIVE DIRECTOR ROLE ENCOMPASS?

My role as Creative Director means that I design and execute. Right through to photo shoots and marketing, throw in a whole bunch of admin and you have a job that keeps you up at night...ha! But I wouldn’t change it for the world.

HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR CAREER, WHERE DID IT ALL START?

Well I studied design visual communications at University, which placed me in a design agency that specialised in branding, typography, graphics and Tvc’s. That then lead me to designing prints and graphics for Sass and Bide and One Teaspoon to Pony Rider.

"Well my head says, strive for your perfect, and once you’ve reached it then it’s good enough.

My heart says, don’t sweat the small shit cause it all comes out in the wash anyways."

WHAT'S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?

Well my head says- Strive for your perfect, and once you’ve reached it then it’s good enough.

My heart says- don’t sweat the small shit cause it all comes out in the wash anyways.

PONY RIDER HAS A PARTICULAR AESTHETIC, CAN YOU TELL US WHAT INSPIRED THIS?

It’s definitely my aesthetic. A mix of pretty, camp and tough. I grew up a Tom boy and always loved hanging out with the lads. I suppose it’s product that suits both men and women.

A LOT OF PONY RIDER'S NEW RANGE IS MADE FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS, CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THE DECISION BEHIND THE MATERIAL CHOICES?

Yes I was having a chat about this with my good friend the other day. We all have a responsibility to make change. This is essential for the planet. We are moving to new forms of sustainable material In the coming future. Some are made from plastic caps. It’s not a marketing campaign it’s fundamentally the right thing to do.

YOUR HOME LOOKS LIKE A PLACE I WANT TO BE IN, CAN YOU GIVE US ANY ADVICE ON HOME STYLING?

Yep, make it yours! A home should be filled with items that you love. Depending on your style you might like it all tonal or you might like it flashy or perhaps you're a vintage bowerbird. Either way if it’s sorted and ordered and items are thoughtfully placed it will look loved and love makes a home.

WHAT NEW VENTURES HAVE YOU GOT ON THE HORIZON?

Few more hotels and a whole lot of homes. China has been a great new area for us and an interesting market. Watch this space.
